Freedom

Once
We were caught
On the barbed land of our lips
With expired visas of Sight
Smuggling illegal breaths of Love
Into our bordered bodies.

We could’ve escaped.

Advertising Poem

Urgently required
A single stanza poem of devious nature.
Written in simple English vocabulary.
Metaphors, similes images not necessary
No ornate language Please.
A single theme would be much valued.
Local Symbols necessary
Should appeal readers.
No lamenting the loss of a beloved kind of crap.
No victimization discourse.
No political allusions.
Experimentation and innovation would be highly appreciated.

Resentment

“Mubashir”
She quizzes
“You often exaggerate
And misquote me
In your poems”

"My Love"
I confess
“I told you
I am not a great poet”

No thyself

A great man once said
“Know thyself”

He never said
“Know thyself
And fall deep down into your own abyss”
That’s what a great woman said to me
In love
Years later
After I fell into her void.

Excerpt from Questioning a Survivor

She loved Accidents
and Poetry.

She loved the idea of a bloody human body
Squashed, squeezed, jammed
Thirsty for some breaths.

Of dislocated organs she would say
See that’s life
Disconnected, broken, non-functional.

She treasured
Farrokhzad and Parveen Shakir
In poetry.

A case of Accidental Poetry
That’s what she used to call them.

A Wishful Search

It took me
Umpteenth rains
springs summers
and snows

countless
positions of the moon
innumerable sunrises
and sunsets

zillion faces of the earth
myraid latitudes
and longitudes

immeasurable measures
distancing distances
varied laughs smiles
and mood swings

uncountable breaths
and blinkings

to locate
at the end
the exact position
of a heart
decorated with love stings.

My Love
Why were you
not far away???

Professional Impuissance

Even though
She has a PhD in Griefology
Is a specialist in Bereavement and Mourning
And has a lengthy paper published
In the International Journal of Sadness
Often cited by scholars
Her colleagues are in awe of her CV
Which they say
Speaks volumes about
Her cerebral insight in distinguishing
Fake tears from the real ones.

Somehow
I don’t know why

My misery evades her.
